I’ve been teaching women how to lose weight tracking calories for the last 10+ years…
But the fact is, calorie counting doesn’t work for everyone.

Not because calorie counting doesn’t work.
Not because I never want you to do it.
But because if you want to lose weight without counting your calories, you can.

And that’s why I’m giving you the roadmap to do it, especially if you’re in a season where you want to understand how this process could work without logging every single bite of food in an app.

To kick off this week, today’s focus is on the basics of losing weight without tracking. Consider this your overview into the entire process that is going to allow you to shed fat with more flexibility or logging 30 calories of a condiment, LOL.

THE BASICS OF LOSING WEIGHT WITHOUT COUNTING CALORIES:

Why Food Logging Works:
Food logging is so effective for fat loss because it gives you guard-rails (in all situations around food) to be able to shed fat. Whether you are making a meal from scratch at home and entering each ingredient as you cook, or you’re out to eat at Chipotle estimating your portions to get a gist of how many calories you’re consuming… calorie tracking and macro logging makes fat loss straightforward.

As you can see, food logging is very “cause-and-effect” because as you eat a certain amount of calories or hit a certain protein benchmark – you have tangible numbers to work towards making fat loss make sense. 

If Food Logging Works So Well, How Can You Lose Weight Without Logging?
While there are many benefits of food logging, there are also downfalls… which is probably why you were interested in losing weight without logging your food.

Because food logging creates a lot of guard-rails and structure when shedding fat, if you get rid of it – you have to find tools and strategies (alongside an entire approach) to replace the structure you’re getting rid of.

By the end of this week, you’ll see how all of this fits into a simple system.

When you are not logging your food, it’s very easy to fall victim to intuitive and emotional eating when you are letting your day dictate your food choices instead of YOU intentionally choosing what and how you eat throughout the day.

This is why to lose weight without logging your food, you have to avoid eating “what you want when you want” and instead find other ways to create structure in your diet and your routines despite not logging your food or when you’re eating.

Truthfully, it takes a different level of personal accountability.

Be Honest.. Why Don’t You Want To Log Your Food?
If you are wanting to lose weight without logging your food for the wrong reason, you won’t be successful.

If you don’t want to log your food because you’re in a different stage of life and feeling resistant to taking time out of your day to enter your food choices… and just wish that there was just a little easier of an approach where you can change your habits without having to use an app every time that you eat… You’re in the right place and there is definitely an approach that I will teach you to be able to lose weight without logging.

However if you are avoiding logging your food because it forces you to be honest about habits and choices that are not reflective of what the fit version of yourself would be making – it can sometimes exacerbate weight struggles and food issues.

In fact, for some, getting rid of the pressure of food logging sometimes (unfortunately) results in justifying eating whatever you want in the name of intuitive eating. It makes the problem with your weight and diet worse.

How Can I Be Successful Losing Weight Without Logging?
Throughout my own personal weight loss journey without logging my food, and working with women over the past decade who either could not log their food due to a history of eating disorder OR wanted to get rid of tracking without gaining weight – I’ve picked up a few things along the way.

From these experiences, I’ve realized that there are 2 critical aspects to losing weight without logging that determine if you will be successful, or if you will fail.

#1: You must have to have a strong understanding of generalized nutrition and portion sizes, that way you are able to make adjustments to your habits and routines based upon a general knowledge of what is in your food, and not fads.

#2: If you don’t feel strong in this area already… I would continue to work on emotional regulation and how you respond to adversity when dieting, because if you are very reactive and impatient – this is what will derail you. 

If you want to lose weight without logging your food, it will be impossible to make educated decisions, especially when you get rid of an app clearly telling you if you’re off track and setting you straight, if you struggle with being insightful, inquisitive and calm in the face of adversity. How you process adversity directly relates to your ability to be successful in losing weight without logging your food.
